Besan Laddos for kids

Besan Ladoos has always been my favorite. Growing up in Varanasi, we visited the Sankat Mochan Mandir and the Durga Kund temple often which are famous for their prasad in the the form of Besan Ladoos.

Till today, it is a guilty pleasure of mine and whenever I’m visiting home, I always have them!  No TV, No phones and also no electricity during the summer holidays!  It brings back the nostalgia of my childhood when visiting a temple was an outing to look forward to.

There is a certain kind of comfort which only home and childhood memories can give! Well! Now moving with my husband, all over the country I try my best to create small memorable moments for my nephew and kiddo by trying to make these laddoos  at home.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (200 grams) – Besan or Gram flour
  • 1.5 cup (225 grams) – Organic Sulphur less Sugar
  • 1 cup (200 grams) – Ghee
  • ½ tsp cardamom powder (optional)
  • Some broken dry fruits like walnuts and cashews (optional)

How To Make Besan Ke Ladoo

Heat an iron wok and heat 1 cup of ghee in a pan.

Let the ghee melt and then add gram flour to it. Stir and roast the gram flour until it gets golden brown and fragrant.

Add more ghee if required. Keep the flame medium and medium-low. The flame while roasting the gram flour should not be too high.

When the flour turns golden brown and fragrant, sprinkle 1 tbsp water to it to make it grainy. Now stir the batter constantly until the form settles down. Then turn off the flame as the gram flour is now roasted well.

Roasting gram flour for besan ke ladoo
Now transfer the gram flour to another plate so that it cools down completely. Then use it to bind ladoos.

Mix the chopped dry fruits to the chickpea flour. Also add ½ tsp cardamom powder to the gram flour (if using).

Now add the sugar and mix well. Avoid adding the sugar when the gram flour is hot else it will melt completely and not have a crunchy texture.

The mixture for binding ladoos is now ready. For making ladoos, take little amount mixture in your hands and shape it into round.

Now keep rolling it in your hand till you get smooth and lustrous surface. You can make the ladoos small or big as desired.

Place the prepared ladoo on a plate and similarly bind the ladoos from the rest of the mixture as well. With this much mixture 12 -15 ladoos can be prepared.

Lips smacking and super yummy besan ladoos are ready. Serve them after your meals or include them as dessert for any special occasion. There are also great as snacks for kids, but in moderation. Enjoy!
