Lauki or Bottle Gourd Puree

Bottle Gourd is a very popular vegetable in the Indian houses. It is packed with calcium, magnesium and Vitamin C and it is liked by babies and kids because it does not have a distinct flavor or smell to it. It contains more than 90% water therefore its very good for digestion and relieve constipation.

Ingredients

  • Half of 1 medium sized Lauki (Bottle Gourd)
  • 1 tbsp Moong Dal
  • A pinch of Jeera (Cumin) powder

How to make Bottle Gourd Puree

Be sure to wash and sterilize all the utensils.

Wash the bottle gourd in cold water and peel it. Cut the vegetable into small cubes. Put the cubes in a pressure cooker and add moong dal with 50 ml of water.  Cook the vegetable till 2 whistles on medium flame.

Wait till the cooker releases the gas on it’s own.  Cool the mixture and add jeera powder.  Put the mix in a blender and make it to a soft puree.

As your baby grows older, you can experiment with more and more spices. Oregano is a spice loved by babies.
