Vegetable Oats Porridge

We have already spoken about the goodness of including vegetables to your baby’s diet.  It is important to introduce vegetables to the baby early so that it can develop a taste for different vegetables.

The most popular vegetables you can use for a vegetable porridge are carrots, yam, green beans/peas, cauliflower, broccoli and pumpkin.

Not only oats, you can use any grain and substitute it with oats.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup vegetables of your choice
  • 1 cup oats
  • 2 cups water

How to make Vegetable Oats Porridge

Be sure to sterilize all the utensils needed for making the puree by boiling them in hot water.

Wash and cut the vegetables in small pieces. Take a pan with water and boil the vegetables in it till they are tender.  Do not throw away the water but add the oats in it stirring it occasionally to avoid lumps.  Cook for 10 min on low heat or till the oat is cooked.

Pour the mixture in a bowl and mash the vegetables to form a paste or you can leave chunks of vegetables if the baby is 10 months or older. The yummy and healthy treat is ready for the baby.

Add some ghee to enhance the taste.

Adequate breastmilk can be mixed into it until the desired consistency is achieved.  It also adds extra creaminess making it easier for the baby to swallow.

You can also try Oats dosa, oats cookies and oats dumplings for your toddler.

Please Note:

Breastmilk is best for baby. Please consult your pediatrician before introducing new foods into your child’s diet.
